Initially it was placed out of the wall, the ancient roman wall, until James I of Aragon ordered to build the new wall of the city in the middle of the thirteenth century (where now we can find the new bypasses), and then it remained inside the enclosure of the city, leant on the "Baluard de Sant Pere", where the minister of Catalonia's autonomous government, Rafael de Casanova, would fall injured on 11 September 1714.

In 1909, during the Tragic week of Barcelona, the church was set alight again and later it was rebuilt, with a basilical plan of three naves.
